Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on helping individuals to participate in their chosen occupations important to them, and needed to for daily living. The term occupations refers to all the things we do socialise, carry out personal care, learn, work, have fun and contribute to the community we live in. OT can help with various needs to improve skills needed for an individual to carry out their chosen occupations, which might have been interrupted due to their health.

An OT identifies Individual’s strengths and needs for development by carrying out a comprehensive assessment. An OT assessment involves talking to the individual and / their parents (if a child or young person), to find out current strengths, difficulties and what they hope to get from OT. If needed the assessment will involve observing the individual in their home, school or workplace. The assessment findings will support goal setting with the individual and a personalised intervention plan created.

Overall Occupational Therapists are skilled professionals who find solutions to everyday tasks or problems, enabling individuals to reach their full potential.
