Compassion Focused Therapy

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) involves the cultivation of compassion to alleviate suffering and promote wellbeing. Compassion as defined by the Compassionate Mind Foundation is “A sensitivity to suffering in self and others with a commitment to try to alleviate and prevent it.”

Research has demonstrated how compassion works in our bodies and in our brains, and when cultivated it can be a source of courage and wisdom to address suffering.

Compassion focused approaches are now being used internationally in various settings including, hospitals, schools and business.

CFT uses a number of strategies including, breathing, imagery, written work and mindfulness. It can be used as a stand alone treatment or in adjunction to other Psychological therapies.
